What is the
Clip Gallery?

As you learned in Lesson 11, PowerPoint comes with an extensive clip art library. This library is called the Clip Gallery. The Clip Gallery contains a variety of pictures, photographs, sounds, animations, and video clips that you can use in your presentations.

Not only can you use the clips provided, you can also store and organize your own pictures in the Clip Gallery.

How can I get
more clips?

If you can’t find the picture, music, sound, video, or animation clip you want, you can go to Clip Gallery Live, a Microsoft Web site where you can preview and download additional clips.

At the site, you will see a search bar on the left-hand side of the window that looks like this:

You can enter keywords to search for. You can specify what category you are looking for (business, animals, holidays, etc.). You can also specify what format you are interested in (sounds, animations, clip art, photos...) When you have finished entering your search criteria, click Go. A selection of clips will appear on the right.
Once you have found a clip you want, click the Download button next to it.

Follow the directions on the screen, and when the download is complete, the clips are already stored in the Clip Gallery for your use.

  How do I add
my own clips to
the Clip Gallery?

In order to save a graphic into the Clip Gallery, it must be in one of the following formats:

  • Microsoft Windows Metafile (.wmf)
  • Bitmap (.bmp)
  • Computer Graphics Metafile (.cgm)
  • Graphics Interchange Format (.gif)
  • Joint Photographic Experts Group (.jpg)
  • Portable Network Graphics (.png)

To store a clip in the Gallery:

      1) Click the Insert Clip Art button on the Drawing toolbar.

The Clip Gallery dialog box will appear:

2) Click the tab for the type of clip you want to add (picture, sound or motion clips).

3) Click the Import Clips button.

4) Select the clip.

5) Make sure that “Copy into clip gallery” is selected under the Clip Import Option section.

6) Click the Import button.

7) Enter a brief description of the clip.

8) Click the Categories tab and check off the categories that this clip should appear under.

9) Click the Keywords tab and enter keywords that you think you might use to find the clip later.

10) When you are done, click OK.
