With PowerPoint, you can easily include charts in your presentations and format them as you wish. You can choose from bar charts, pie charts, line graphs, 3D charts, scatter plots, and others.

How do I |
To create
a chart in PowerPoint, click the Insert Chart button on the Standard
toolbar (or double-click the chart placeholder on the slide, if you
created the slide using a slide layout with a chart placeholder). |

chart and a datasheet will appear:

As you can see from above, sample data is displayed in the datasheet. Replace the sample data by clicking in a cell on the datasheet and typing the correct information (both data and chart labels). When you are done, click on the slide somewhere outside the chart. The datasheet will disappear, and the chart will be inserted on the slide. You can move and resize the chart just as you would any other graphic in PowerPoint.

To change the data in the chart, you have to edit the datasheet: 1) To view the datasheet, double click the chart. 2) Type over the old data or labels to make any necessary changes. 3) When done, click on the slide somewhere outside the chart to see your changes take effect.

You can easily turn your chart into a bar chart, a pie chart, a line graph, a 3D chart, or a scatter plot, among others. To change the type of chart displayed: 1) Double
click the chart so that the chart formatting buttons are displayed on
the Formatting toolbar. |

on the Chart Type button on the Formatting toolbar. |

3) Select the desired chart type from the pull-down menu:

How
do I
format the chart?
|
You can format
various features of your chart. Remember that before you can make any
of the following changes to your chart, you must double click the chart
so that the chart formatting options appear on the Standard toolbar. |

- To add
or remove vertical gridlines on your chart, click the Vertical Gridline
button. |

To add or remove horizontal gridlines on your chart, click the Horizontal
Gridline button. |
|
||||
|
|
- To add or remove a legend, click the Legend button. - The chart is made up of various components. To format any of those components, select it from the chart pull-down menu:
|
|
|||
|
Next, click the Format button. A dialog box will appear where you can set appropriate formatting preferences for that component, such as font, line color, background, number format, legend placement, etc. When you have finished, click OK. The changes will then take effect. |
