Participate!

Share your ideas and experiences. Actively contribute to discussions and group activities, not once, but ongoing. Don't be shy with your ideas. You will gain insight from students in class, just as they will gain insight from you.

Don't just post messages once in a discussion. You will learn so much more by reading through all the threaded discussions and reflecting on what everyone is saying. Don't shortchange your learning experience!

Check your e-mail on a very regular basis. Announcements and information will be posted all the time, not just on "class nights".

Communicate.

Learn to communicate through writing. Many of the assignments and even discussions will probably center around the written word.

Become an effective online "listener". Carefully read what others have said, and form your responses carefully and concisely.

Be polite and considerate when expressing your ideas and opinions, and when responding to comments and discussions. Remember the written word can be reviewed many times. Be sure to follow the "core rules of netiquette" (online "manners" - the rules of conduct for online or Internet users).
