Lesson Overview

Before you begin to design training, it is essential to know exactly who your learners are, and in what environment they will be learning. Thus, you conduct a Learner Analysis and Context analysis to document very detailed information about the learners and context. The information will be used to design specific strategies and examples customized for your audience.

Objectives
  • Describe various types of academic, personal, and social learner characteristics. Be sure to include general characteristics, specific entry competencies, and learning styles.

  • Describe sources of information for determining learner characteristics.

  • Describe characteristics of non-conventional learners.

  • Describe factors in the instructional environment that should be analyzed.

Application Activity

We are going to have another threaded discussion this week in our Blackboard site.

As you know, it is important to know the background of our learners, so we can customize our training. Many times we include phrases or sayings that may not make sense to other cultures, such as "Hold your horses".

I would like for each of you to think of as many colloquialisms as possible and add them to our threaded discussion.

Lesson Assignments

For this part of your project, you are to document the characteristics of your audience and learning environment. Use the Learners and Context Template as a guide.

The template has sample information for you to review. When you write your own, be sure to include complete information.

You may use this Learners Checklist to make sure you include everything in your proposal.
